Ten years in. Still shooting.
How Blazy Creative Started
From South Africa to the
cannabis fields of California.
We didn't set out to become a cannabis photography studio, but here we are and honestly, we never made a better accident.
Blazy Creative was founded by Chris, a lifestyle and product photographer who got his start in fashion long before cannabis entered the picture. Originally from South Africa, he moved to California more than two decades ago, spent time in both San Diego and Los Angeles, and eventually settled back in San Diego, where Blazy Creative is based today.
A friend reached out because the product was good and the brand had potential, but the photography made it feel like more of the same. And in cannabis, that matters. People scroll fast, shelf space is crowded, and if a brand doesn't stand out right away, they move on before they ever read what makes it different.
What they needed wasn't just someone to take a clean photo, but someone who knew how to make a product feel desirable. Fashion teaches you one thing above everything else: how to make people want something before they ever touch it. Chris had that eye. The rest took care of itself.
Photography led to video, video led to social. Then a client asked if we could handle all of it, and that was really the moment Blazy Creative became what it is now.
Chris can talk about photography for hours, about light, composition, the difference one angle makes, what gets someone to stop on a reel, all of it. He knows that world inside and out.
Put a spreadsheet in front of him, though, and it's a very different story.
Chris still shoots and that has never changed, but we brought in someone who actually enjoys the other side of things: the numbers, the tracking, figuring out why one piece of content takes off while another doesn't. That's how the studio grew into what it is now, photography, video, social strategy, web design, and the kind of tracking that actually shows what's moving product.
Today, our clients range from boutique craft brands to larger operators, and they usually come to us for the same reason: the product is strong, but the brand doesn't reflect it yet. That's where we come in.
Before cannabis, Chris built his eye in fashion and e-commerce where visuals had one job: make people want the product immediately.
Cannabis brands kept running into the same problem. Strong product, weak visuals. Chris knew how to make a brand look more elevated, desirable, and distinct.
Photography led to video. Video led to social. Brands wanted one team that could hold the whole identity together from shoot day to post day.
Now Blazy Creative brings together content, strategy, and commercial thinking under one roof so brands can look sharper, move faster, and stay consistent everywhere.
Who We Are
You talk to the people
actually doing the work.
If you've worked with a bigger agency before, you probably know the drill. It starts with sales, then gets handed off, then handed off again, and somewhere along the way the original vision gets a little softer. Just when things are finally starting to click, you're filling someone new in and hoping the whole thing does not lose the plot.
We keep it tighter than that. The people you talk to are the same people shooting, editing, posting, building, and tracking the work. Same team, same vision, same faces every time.
Photography, video, and creative direction.
Every visual is made for where it needs to land. Product and lifestyle photography, video reels, farm and cultivation imagery. All of it shot and edited for wherever it needs to go, not just how it looks in isolation.
Strategy, analytics, and commercial thinking.
Knowing what to shoot is only part of the job. The commercial side covers what happens after the shoot: strategy, performance tracking, web design, and making sure the content actually does its job. The same people who created it are the ones watching what it does.
How We Work
Simple process.
Clear communication. No surprises.
We know what California buyers notice, what they scroll past, and what helps a brand stand out. Less explaining on your end, faster decisions, and creative built for how cannabis is actually marketed.
Ship the product or book us on-site, and we'll take it from there. We handle the shoot, the edit, and if needed, the posting too, so your team can stay focused while content keeps moving.
Your brand should not look polished in one place and disconnected in another. From Weedmaps to social to launch materials, we keep the visuals aligned so buyers get a clear, consistent brand wherever they find you.
Great product.
Not enough time to show it.
Most of the brands we work with came to us in the same place. The product was solid, the brand had potential, but the photography was inconsistent, the social presence was falling behind, and there was never enough time to fix it properly. We handle all of it so the people running the brand can focus on running the brand.
If we sound like the right fit, book a free 15-minute call and we'll take a quick look at where your brand stands visually and what we'd do differently.

"We have been in this industry for over a decade. We know how dispensaries think, what makes a Weedmaps buyer click, and what makes someone stop scrolling on Instagram. You won't spend one meeting explaining how cannabis works. We already know."
